Europe’s Top Festivals: Sun, Music, and Eclectic Acts

Top 5 Festivals in Europe 2024

Whether you want to soak up sun and music at a French wine festival in a castle, or dance until your eyes close at an EDM event on a Hungarian island, there’s something for everyone here.

The 2024 lineup at Flow Festival includes Fred again and Loyle Carner, plus the festival has impressive eco-credits.

Primavera Sound Barcelona

A staple music festival in Europe, Primavera Sound is renowned for its eclectic mix of acts that appeal to a wide range of tastes. This year’s headliners include Lana Del Rey, SZA and FKA Twigs alongside Vampire Weekend, Mitski, Bikini Kill and PJ Harvey. Also appearing are Troye Sivan, Disclosure and Deftones.

In addition to the main lineup, Primavera Sound 2024 will see a series of talks from industry figures including Jack Antonoff and Variety’s Shirley Halperin on topics like AI, music sync and mental health. For those who can’t make it to Barcelona, the festival will have a livestream on Amazon.

For those who plan to use public transport, it’s worth purchasing a T-Casual ticket which will give you ten journeys for one cheaper rate. It’s available on the official site. Alternatively, it’s possible to rent a car from nearby Barcelona Airport. This will allow you to avoid the queues and get straight into the action.

Way Out West

Way Out West has been filling Gothenburg’s luscious Slottsskogen park with music and culture since 2007, and has built a strong reputation for itself as an outpost of curated, cultured festival luxury. The line-ups are always impressive – and the food (and vegetarian options) is great too – but it’s also one of the most eco-friendly festivals around.

The 2024 edition kicked off with a bang thanks to irate, political Mercury Prize winners Young Fathers and trip-hop legends Massive Attack, both of whom delivered tumultuous shows that were just as powerful as they were challenging. Meanwhile, Devo’s deft archness and satirical mocking still feels as fresh as ever, even as they approach their 75th anniversary.

A four day pass to this festival costs about $252 at the current exchange rate. The lineup includes Conducta, DJ EZ, Eliza Rose, Shermanology and many more. For more information, visit the Hideout website.

Cala Mijas

Florence + The Machine’s ethereal presence captivated a crowd that were eager to hear the final leg of her Dance Fever tour, while Arca’s avant-garde brilliance pushed the boundaries of sonic innovation.

Ahead of 2024’s instalment, the lineup for this Croatian expedition has been revealed with names like Safety Trance, Bradley Zero, HAAi, Midland and Palms Traxxx B2B Peach taking to the stage alongside the aforementioned acts.

Also in Europe, festival goers can expect a full-throttle lineup at Denmark’s NorthSide this June. Meanwhile, Sweden Rock has added 18 artists to their lineup – think Judas Priest, Alice Cooper, Parkway Drive, Avantasia and Bruce Dickinson. More names are set to be added soon.

This year’s line-up includes Fred again., Martin Garrix, Sam Smith and Stormzy, among others. Brooklyn’s evocative indie-folk duo Big Thief will also perform, weaving raw and enthralling emotions through their poetic lyrics.
